Grown-up Homeschool Kid
A tomboy at heart, Shelby Schick has always had a soft spot for the boys who can’t sit still. She grew up climbing trees and pretending she had superpowers, ready to take on imaginary enemies with a stick as a sword. Now she writes fantasy stories to awaken the warrior heart hidden within every wild boy— books to help moms raise the next generation of dragonslayers.
Oldest of six, artsy homeschool kid, Shelby’s relationship with books started with simple hatred. Reading was boring. She’d rather be painting or prying up rocks and collecting centipedes.
That all changed at Hogwarts.
With the introduction to the fantasy genre, Shelby became a prolific reader. She spent a couple summers reading in the arms of trees before she tried her hand at writing.
It became an calling.
But she wasn't sure how to pursue the dream. After graduating high school, Shelby traveled to Europe (shout out to Word of Life), worked at some pizza shops, and grew in her faith as she wondered what on earth she was supposed to be doing with her life.
Cue her very own Hogwarts—the Author Conservatory; a place on a mission to raise up the next C.S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien.
Now, after three years of intensive storytelling apprenticeship, Shelby is entering the creative world striving to serve up stories as powerful as The Wingfeather Saga, 100 Cupboards, and The Green Ember. Drawing inspiration from the rambunctious boys in her own life, she writes fantasy to bring laughter, inspire wonder, and remind readers that there's no shame in spending one's strength for those you love.
Shelby lives in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Sometimes she plays nerf wars with her cousins, other times she takes her friends spelunking. She’s never done both at the same time (yet).
